The 470 is an all new design that incorporates the best features of the 42 and the 400, with added emphasis on the cruising comfort and systems our owners require.
By using a modular hull liner mold, we will be able to offer a single or twin aft cabin option. The first production models will have the single cabin aft (featuring a queen size berth with an inner spring mattress) and a forward cabin with a double berth port. (similar to the Catalina 42). The aft twin berth interior option is now available.
Although the 470 is an all new model, a very conservative approach has been taken in the development of systems design borrowing from the most effective, reliable elements from existing models. Owners have told us what works (and what does not) and the 4 70 reflects this experience.
A few of the many notable features of the 470 are as follows:
  • Twin wheels: This is a must on a modern boat with a broad stern (as seen on the America One from the San Francisco Yacht Club) It allows the helmsman to sit out board to view traffic and sail trim, while permitting unimpeded access to the stern platform. The 470 steering system will connect each wheel to the rudder port independently for the feel and precision of a single wheel, but with the benefits of twins. The redundancy, designed into the steering system, is a great safety feature too.
  • The cockpit table has space for full instrumentation, including a plotter and radar split screen combo, as well as dining space for six.
  • A 2 speed electric main halyard/mainsheet winch is standard equipment.
  • Careful attention has been paid to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Conduits and chases have been provided, making maintenance and service easier.
  • All freshwater and waste tankage has been accommodated in subsole compartments, designed to accommodate roto molded tanks. This keeps the weight low and allows the more accessible compartments to be used for storage.
  • Fuel will be carried in two independent 42 gallon aluminum tanks with separate filters and a manifold system.
  • The standard rig mast will accommodate I.C.W. bridges (63' mast height)and have a rated sail area of 1010 sq. ft. with a 100% fore triangle. The tall rig option will have a rated sail area of 1092 sq. ft. and a mast height of approximately 68'
The 470 is one of our most exciting and carefully conceived new model projects ever.
